There are seven at-grade intersections between Bracebridge and Huntsville along Hwy 11. These force vehicles to merge or cross traffic traveling at more than 100 km/h.
This stretch of highway has seen 950 accidents in 10 years, many of which are caused by these dangerous intersections.
Ten years ago the Province proposed to replace these dangerous intersections with flyover bridges and two new, safe interchanges.
A government study concluded this would "significantly improve safety."
The Ford government has committed to following through on these improvements. It has even closed the intersection at Mary Lake Rd. We are thankful for the government's action, but will remain vigilant to ensure the other intersections are replaced or removed.
